Ajayi Ayobami is an Animal Scientist and postgraduate student at Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, Nigeria, with a strong passion for apiculture and the application of digital technologies to improve productivity in animal-based systems.
He currently (in 2025) coordinates the Community-Based Beekeeping Development Project in Itaji-Ekiti — a grassroots initiative that has trained and empowered 27 individuals, with a focus on youth and women, in sustainable beekeeping.
Ayobami's beekeeping journey began in 2018 during his undergraduate days, when he ventured into honey sales by sourcing from local honey marketers. However, concerns around product quality and adulteration raised his curiosity and motivated him to learn more about beekeeping — not just as a business, but as a science. His desire to produce raw, traceable honey and to distinguish genuine honey from adulterated products set him on a path of continuous learning, capacity building, and practical field experience.

Since then, his beekeeping interest has grown into a commitment to community development and sustainable agriculture. He is now focused on leveraging digital tools and data-enabled innovations — such as hive monitoring, productivity tracking, and mobile-based advisory systems — to improve hive management and empower smallholder beekeepers.
Through the Bees Abroad training programme, Ayobami hopes to enhance his technical capacity, gain international exposure, and champion smart, scalable, and inclusive beekeeping solutions across Nigeria.
